This medicine helps prevent CMV replication which consequently limits the risk of CMV-related CMV syndrome and CMV organ disease post-transplantation. This will lead to successful outcomes and an enhanced rate of graft survival in organ transplant recipients. Get guidance from an expert!
Advantage of use:
- Effective Treatment: Valgan is quickly gaining acceptance as an outstanding drug for treating cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in AIDS patients. It helps to halt the development of the disease.
- Prevention of Vision Loss: Valgan does this by stopping CMV from spreading, thus it prevents vision loss and blindness that would usually result from CMV retinitis.
- Prophylaxis in Organ Transplant: Valgan helps in decreasing the chance of CMV disorders of organ recipients after surgery.
- Convenient Dosage Form: Being in the tablet form, Valgan provides a simple dose administration and adherence to the treatment regimen.
- Manufacturer Reputation: Developed by Cipla Ltd, Valgan is a trusted and top-end treatment.
- Improved Patient Outcomes: By treating CMV infection, Valgan leads to better patient outcome and quality of life which is so important for the most vulnerable individuals who have weakened immune systems.
- Long-term Management: Valgan can be used via long-term management of CMV retinitis as well as CMV disease prevention in transplant recipients and assuring such patients of sustained treatment benefits over time. Resulting in the effectiveness of therapy and the increased rate of allograft survival in organ transplant patients.

Working of Valgan tablets
- Active Ingredient: Valgan contained Valganciclovir (prodrug) which is further converted to ganciclovir once consumed.
- Inhibition of Viral Replication: It selectively acts on viral dna polymerase to inhibit viral replication.
- DNA Chain Termination: Competitive binding of ganciclovir and deoxyguanosine triphosphate (dGTP) occurs during duplication of the viral genetic material.
- Incorporation into DNA: Part of the DNA, ganciclovir acts in the chain termination fashion, unable to form the further elongation of the DNA strand.
- Prevention of DNA Synthesis: Due to its ability to interfere with the formation of DNA, ganciclovir prevents cytomegalovirus (CMV) from reproducing.
- Viral Control: ganciclovir, by preventing the CMV reproduction, reduces the further development of CMV retinitis in patients with AIDS.
- Prophylactic Effect: In organ transplant recipients, Valgan is employed to obviate CMV illness by diminishing viral load contribution and stopping viral replication at post-transplant stage.
- Preservation of Vision: Indeed, Valgan enables the management of CMV, a disorder responsible for the damage to the eyes and vision loss.
Dose Instruction
- Dosage: A Valgan 450 mg tablet prescribed for the treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in AIDS patients is 900 mg twice daily (two tablets) for 21 days, followed by a maintenance dose of 900 mg once daily (two tablets).
- Duration of Treatment: The duration of treatment with Valgan may well be individual-specific, and will be influenced by the responsiveness of the patient to therapy and the severity of the CMV retinitis. Generally, ongoing maintenance treatment is performed until the following is fully indicated clinically for the control of the CMV infection and the prevention of recurrences.
- Administration: Valgan 450mg Tablets are to be consumed orally, after meals, to aid the drug absorption by the effector cells. The tablet should be taken alone accompanied by a glass of water. It should not be crushed, chewed or broken.
- Missed Dose: The Valgan dose that has been missed should be taken immediately. When a Valgan dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible. Even though it is almost time for the next dose, the skipped one should pass and the regular dosage schedule would remain. Patients have to wait for the next dose to make up for the missed one because they shouldn’t double the dose to compensate for the missed one.
- Overdose: In the case of a patient overdosing with Valgan, these may result in mononuclear cell ulceration, accentuated lymphocyte proliferation, lymphocytic infiltration of lung, spleen, liver or other organs, increase in myelogranulocytic proliferation, transfusion required chronic anemia, etc.
Care for an overdose may include supportive measures and monitoring the most possible negative side effects. At this point, patients are required to report to the hospital and get treated as soon as possible.
